Our unique research programme analyses media coverage across the US and Europe. The results – accessed via our simple but powerful reports and online tools – give you your share of voice, influencers that need to be targeted and how your brand is perceived in the media.

This interactive chart shows a number of themes or topics that we track across Europe and the USA. The data looks at the last 24 months from October 2009 to September 2011 and plots the number of articles mentioning the topic and the number of different journalists writing about and analysts commenting on the subject. Have a look at ‘Tablet Computers’ to see how that subject has exploded over the last two years.

The next chart takes a more detailed look at the companies producing tablets and how their tablet products have been covered over the last two years. There are two companies you should keep an eye on: Apple and Lenovo who in October 2009 shared similar coverage profiles. It changed dramatically the following month as journalists and analysts alike got wind of the idea that Apple would be launching a tablet.

Providing our clients with high quality meaningful data that gives them the edge and saves them time is our primary focus, we do this by making sure our monitoring, analysis and quality control are second to none.

Using a unique combination of innovative technical solutions and analytical processes our team of highly skilled UK based researchers process all content with great attention to detail, ensuring the names of all relevant companies, analysts, journalist and spokespeople are recorded correctly within our database.

Making sure we get this right is a demanding process and involves processing vast amounts of erroneous and duplicate data all of which ensures the data used within our services is clean, accurate and properly verified.

How do we do it?

Our data capture processes are constantly evolving to keep pace with ever changing and new media sources. Many of our systems run 24/7…

We check key site RSS Feeds every 20 minutes and utilise bespoke web crawlers to retrieve content from both open and closed access sites. Our web spidering technology is able to follow links at multiple levels, filter results and then check for duplicate URLs and content.

Our Blog collection routine runs on a continuous loop, visiting each blog to harvest new contents as it is published. Electronic versions of print titles monitored wherever possible, if not we scan and OCR hardcopy using the very latest intelligent segmentation technology.

Once captured, we extract the relevant information and remove the noise using a series of well defined rules and processes. Any anomalies are checked by our specialist QA team and all data is then processed to locate name mentions, quotations and other key data.

Data is then scored, using a comprehensive set of rules perfected over the last seven years and verified by our research team before being added to our overall knowledge base.

A separate stream of new or suspect data is also meticulously assessed by our research team to ensure new companies, products, sectors, journalist, analysts and spokespeople are not missed and categorised correctly.

Constant Innovation

Keeping pace with the increasing volume of technology news and information requires constant innovation. It means we need to think ahead and constantly improve our data capture processes.

Twitter Twice a week we check every journalist and analyst within our knowledge base and retrieve a list of every Twitter user that they follow.  By comparing this with previous lists we can spot new names and ones that have gone off the radar screen. Additions and changes are then manually checked and verified, with any new journalists and analysts being added to the system.

Blogs Monitoring commercial media sources is one thing, monitoring blogs is another! Our researchers understand the blogosphere and keep a constant track on who’s hot, who’s not, where and when they publish. All of this means that our list of 500+ blogs is updated regularly – we’re also very happy for our clients to suggest new blogs or check that the blogs they need to know about are covered by the service.
